Overview

Generative Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI or GenAI) refers to a type of AI that can create original content or data rather than analyze or process existing data. This type of AI is capable of learning patterns from data and then generating new content that fits within those patterns.

In recent years, AI has benefited from advancements in ML(Machine Learning), NLP(Natural Language Processing, and DL(Deep Learning) frameworks. Traditional AI evolved into Generative AI when generative algorithms were developed to create new content like images, audio, videos, etc.

Generative AI is based on unsupervised machine learning algorithms that utilize data to learn a representation of artifacts, and then use that representation to create new artifacts while maintaining a resemblance to the original artifact.

Generative AI’s important benefit is in NLP. GenAI models can generate coherent text messages or entire stories based on a given user prompt. They can also be used to translate text between languages, summarize long messages, and generate source code.

Another popular application of Generative AI is creating realistic images, videos, and audio. These models can generate entirely new content based on input data, such as text descriptions. For example, Generative AI can create realistic images of people, animals, pictures, etc.
