MS Windows Screensaver

Overview

Let’s learn how to configure MS Windows Screensaver in this tutorial. Screensaver is an application that displays a blank screen or graphics when the computer remains inactive for some period of time.

Windows 7

Right-click on the desktop and choose to Personalize menu item. Click on the Screen Saver button to configure.

 

 

Alternatively, click on the Start button and search for ‘screen saver’. Choose the ‘change screen saver‘ control panel search result.

This will launch the Screen saver settings screen. From the Screen saver drop-down list, choose the screensaver. A small preview is shown above on the computer monitor.

With Preview you can see how it will look. When you move the mouse or press a key the preview will end. You can modify the time it takes for the screensaver to appear by adjusting the time on Wait.

To save the changes and apply the screen saver, click on the Apply button.

Password protection

The Settings button allows us to customize the image used as the screensaver. Depending on the image, the properties we can change vary.

Checking On resume, display login screen you can place password protection to keep someone else from working on your computer.

Once the screensaver is engaged it will only allow you back to the normal screen once you have entered the correct user password.

Screen Saver Advantages

It is recommended to have a screensaver on the computer screen to avoid damage to the computer monitor, optimize power consumption and hide data on the screen when the computer is unattended.
