MySQL Monitor Modes

MySQL Monitor Modes

MySQL Monitor can be run in two modes. The two modes that can be used are as follows:

  1. Interactive Mode
  2. Batch Mode

Interactive Mode

In the interactive mode, the database user types the SQL queries and commands at the mysql> prompt.

Batch Mode

In batch mode, the MySQL monitor program reads the file and executes the commands. The file can be the database script file with the .sql extension. The database script file can have multiple database commands.

Batch mode is useful in automation. When the database user needs to run a large number of database commands. To run the database script file we can use the SOURCE command. For example, to run a script file : test.sql

mysql> SOURCE test.sql
