What is GitHub Desktop?

Overview

GitHub Desktop is a desktop application for Windows and Mac OS platforms. It allows you to work with projects on GitHub and GitHub Enterprise. You can add projects to create, develop, and track the project in a helpful graphical interface(GUI).

How to start?

Once you install the application, you can start it by clicking on the Desktop icon. Alternatively, you can launch the application from the Start menu.

 

Things you can do…

Using GitHub Desktop application, you can create a new project and publish it to GitHub.
Clone a repository, push, pull, and remove the repository.
Add an existing local repository.

Sign in to GitHub and Git Enterprise.

Create a pull request, a new branch, merge, etc.

View commit history, changes etc.

Configure GitHub Desktop

You can configure Git easily with this application. Configure your information like name, email which is used to identify your commits. Login to GitHub.com or GitHub Enterprise.

Set if you wish to participate to improve the application by allowing anonymized usage data.

 

 

Check for Updates

Check for the application updates by clicking on the Check for Updates button as shown below.
