Alpha Testing

Alpha testing is testing performed in a controlled environment, usually with the organization. Alpha tests are performed by the developers, testers within the organization. In this testing, the development team would be around to help the testing team.

Beta Testing

Beta testing is done after the Alpha testing phase. Beta testing is testing performed by beta testers, usually in an uncontrolled environment or manner. The company releases a beta version to the users on the Beta channel. Users use or download the beta versions to test the product.

Example: Windows Insider Beta Program

Beta testers can download beta preview builds of the Windows 10 operating system. After the testing, the testers can provide feedback on the defects.
