How to view Hidden Files and Directories on Linux<\/h1>\n

Let’s see how to view hidden files and directories on Ubuntu Linux using Terminal<\/em>. The Terminal<\/i> is the default command-line interface for Ubuntu distribution.<\/p>\n

Hidden files<\/h2>\n

A filename that begins with a period is a hidden file in Linux.
\nThe normal ls command does not display it.<\/p>\n

The command ls -a<\/em> displays all the files. (the hidden files as well). We can also provide a -l<\/em> command line switch for the long format. Many programs use hidden files for their configuration files.<\/p>\n

Command<\/b><\/h2>\n

To view Hidden files and directories on Linux we can use the ls command.<\/p>\n

Launch Terminal<\/p>\n

Change the working directory to the path(cd<\/em>) where you want to view the hidden files and directories.<\/p>\n

Issue the following command:<\/p>\n

$ ls -l -a\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
