Differences between Intranet and Internet<\/h1>\n

In this tutorial, we will learn the differences between the Intranet and the Internet. Although both terms look similar, there are several differences. Let’s first learn both terms.<\/p>\n

Internet<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Internet is the worldwide, publicly accessible system of interconnected computer networks that transmit data by packet switching using the standard Internet Protocol (IP).<\/p>\n

It is an interconnection of several diverse computer networks. It consists of several separate, incompatible computer networks that differ in many ways. They use different data formats, computer software, and various hardware devices.<\/p>\n

The Internet consists of a large number of smaller businesses,
\nacademic, domestic, and government networks, which together carry various internet services, such as e-mail(Electronic Mail), interlinked Webpages, online chat, and other documents of the WWW( World Wide Web).<\/p>\n

The Internet allows communication between people who use different and incompatible computer networks. Using the Internet any person anywhere in the world can access your information.<\/p>\n

Intranet<\/h2>\n

An intranet is a small private computer network that uses Internet protocols, and network connectivity, inside a company that allows employees to access the company’s information resources and collaborate together.<\/p>\n

Intranet vs Internet<\/h2>\n

Some of the differences between the Intranet and the Internet are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

An intranet is a private network. Only authorized users and employees can access the computer network.<\/td>\nThe Internet is a public network. Anybody with an internet connection can access it.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
It is protected with a VPN and is secured with a firewall.<\/td>\nDoesn’t require a VPN. However, we can still use a VPN for online privacy.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Intranet networks are safe and can host confidential business documents and information.<\/td>\nThe Internet is not safe. Confidential documents cannot be stored on the Internet.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Accessing information is slow.<\/td>\nAccessing information is fast.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
