How to launch Eclipse from Terminal in Ubuntu Linux<\/h2>\n

On this page, we will learn how to launch Eclipse IDE from the Terminal<\/strong> on Ubuntu Linux machine. This tutorial assumes that Eclipse is installed on the Linux system.<\/p>\n

Steps to Install Eclipse IDE on Ubuntu Linux machine:<\/p>\n

Steps to Launch Eclipse<\/h3>\n

Launch Terminal application.<\/p>\n

Change working directory to the Eclipse install directory path from the Terminal.<\/p>\n

$ cd <eclipse install directory>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

For example, if the eclipse installation directory is \/home\/testingdocs\/eclipse<\/p>\n

$ cd \/home\/testingdocs\/eclipse<\/strong><\/p>\n

Launch from Terminal<\/h3>\n

To run Eclipse from the Terminal, issue the following command in the terminal<\/p>\n

Notice that we have to change directory into eclipse install directory. To run Eclipse from anywhere in the Terminal, add the eclipse install directory to PATH<\/strong> environment variable.<\/p>\n

$ gedit \/etc\/profile<\/strong><\/p>\n

Append eclipse directory to the PATH.<\/p>\n

PATH=$PATH:\/home\/testingdocs\/eclipse<\/strong><\/p>\n

export PATH<\/strong><\/p>\n

Save the file.<\/p>\n

Now we can launch Eclipse IDE on Ubuntu Linux from anywhere in the Terminal windows. echo PATH<\/strong> variable to check if the eclipse directory got appended to the existing PATH.<\/p>\n

Command to check the PATH<\/strong> environment variable.<\/p>\n

$ echo $PATH<\/strong><\/p>\n

Now, we can simply type eclipse<\/strong> in the Terminal from anywhere in the directory tree. There is no need to change working directory to the eclipse install directory.<\/p>\n
