Overview
Let’s learn about the RACI Chart in this tutorial. RACI stands for Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, and Informed. It is a role and responsibility charting technique to define the members’ involvement roles for project work products.
RACI Chart
The chart clarifies
- Responsible: Who is responsible?
- Accountable: Who is accountable?
- Consulted: Who must be consulted?
- Informed: Who must be informed?
Responsible
A responsible team member is a person who accomplishes the task. We need to assign at least one member to accomplish the task.
Example: Tester or a QA resource in a test execution cycle.
Accountable
An accountable person delegates work to others. Having only one Accountable resource assigned to each deliverable is a good practice. An accountable person is the last to review the task or deliverable before completion.
Example: The test Manager of the project is accountable for the test effort on the project.
Consulted
Consulted members are the domain of expertise. A consulted person provides input based on how it will impact their future project work or their domain of expertise on the deliverable. Deliverables are sent to these members for review comments, further improvements, critical issues, etc.
Example: An automation architect expert in the organization was consulted to finalize the tool to be used in the project before starting automation.
Informed
Informed members are just kept in the loop for the project communications and progress—for example, upper management in the organization.
Example: Director of the organization.
