Web Application Testing ( in short, Web Testing or Web App Testing) is verifying the web application and websites for bugs before the application is deployed into the live production environment.
Web application
A web application( in short, a web app) is a software application accessed and used over the internet through a web browser. Unlike traditional desktop applications, web apps don’t need to be installed on a user’s device and run entirely within the web browser.
Web applications are designed to be accessible from various devices, including desktop computers, laptops, smartphones, and tablets. They are platform-independent, meaning that users can access them regardless of their operating system. One of the main advantages of web applications is their accessibility, as they don’t require users to download and install software on their devices. This makes them a popular choice for many people who rely on different devices to access the internet.
This is the most common web application architecture is 3-Tier architecture. It separates the application into three parts:
- Web Browser: The client side that the user uses to access the web application.
- Web Server: The web server hosts the web application and decides the logic. Examples are Apache Web Server, IIS, etc.
- Database Server: used for data storage and retrieval. Examples are Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL, etc.
Web applications are usually created using web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the front-end, and server-side technologies like PHP, Python, Ruby, Java, or .NET for the back-end. They communicate with web servers to retrieve and store data and can utilize database servers to manage and store information.

Web application testing is the process of verifying the functionality, usability, security, and performance of a web application. It ensures that web applications work as intended and provide good quality to web users. Web application testing aims to identify and address defects or vulnerabilities before deploying the application to the production environment.
Potential bugs in applications are discovered through testing. Testing is performed on various web browsers and OS platforms before deploying the application code in the production environment.
