Input, Process, and Output

An IPO chart is a graphical chart describing a system’s main components. It breaks down the system into three main components:

  • Input
  • Process
  • Output

Input

These are the system’s inputs. They can be resources, data, files, or materials.

Process

Process denotes the actions, steps, operations, or calculations that transform the inputs into outputs.

Output

Outputs are the system’s final products. They are the system’s results or outputs.
