Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE)
A Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) is a software engineer who works directly with customers to design, develop, deploy, and customize technical solutions. Unlike traditional software engineers who primarily build products from headquarters, FDEs work at the intersection of software engineering, solution architecture, customer success, and consulting.
FDEs are commonly hired by AI, cloud, cybersecurity, and enterprise software companies such as Palantir,
OpenAI, Anthropic, Scale AI, Databricks, Snowflake, and many fast-growing AI startups. Their goal is to ensure customers successfully implement complex software solutions while providing valuable product feedback to the engineering team.
