GATE CS Exam Pattern
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national-level exam conducted for admission to postgraduate programs and for recruitment in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). It is jointly administered by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). For Computer Science Engineering (CSE) aspirants, GATE serves as a critical stepping stone toward higher studies or technical careers in both the public and private sectors. Understanding the exam pattern is essential for structured preparation.
The GATE Computer Science paper will evaluate a candidate’s understanding of core concepts in computer science and general aptitude. The exam is conducted online as a Computer-Based Test (CBT).

Cut Off
The GATE CS cutoff varies each year based on difficulty level, number of candidates, and overall performance. The expected cutoff for 2025 may be similar to previous years:
- General Category: 25 – 30 marks
- OBC-NCL/EWS: 90% of General Category cutoff
- SC/ST/PwD: 66.67% of General Category cutoff
The actual cutoff will be announced after the results are declared.
