MATLAB History
MATLAB History
MATLAB stands for “Matrix Laboratory.” It is a high-level fourth-generation (4GL) programming language and interactive environment for numerical computation, visualization, and programming.
MATLAB Origin
Here’s a brief history of MATLAB.
MATLAB was created in the 1970s by Cleve Moler, a professor and Numerical Analyst at the University of New Mexico. Moler originally developed MATLAB to give his students access to LINPACK and EISPACK without requiring them to learn Fortran. It has since evolved into a successful commercial package.
Moler’s initial version of MATLAB quickly gained popularity in academic circles, particularly for its ease of use in linear algebra courses.
MATLAB was commercialized by MathWorks, a company founded by Cleve Moler, Jack Little, and Steve Bangert. The first commercial version was released in 1984. The initial focus was on providing a tool for solving linear algebra problems.
