Overview
A URL ( Uniform Resource Locator) is a formatted string address of a resource on the Web. Applications like web browsers, email clients, and other software use URLs to identify network resources on the Internet.
URL Format
Let’s understand the URL format with an example. For example, the address of the Google website is in the following format:
http://www.google.com
https://www.google.com
- http or https stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol. ( s stands for secure)
- www stands for world wide web.
- google in the URL example stands for the domain name. The name of the company is Google. This can be any easy-to-remember name that allows users to type in the URL in the browser address bar
- .com is the type of domain.
Domain organization types
Some common domain extensions and organization types are as follows:
