    Overview

    In this tutorial, we will learn about MS Excel features. MS Excel is a Microsoft Windows product. It is a Windows operating system-based application from Microsoft Corporation.

    Microsoft Excel is a powerful spreadsheet software.  It is possible to enter data into the worksheet, perform calculations and generate graphs and charts.

    MS Excel Features

    Excel’s basic file format is a workbook. Each workbook can hold many worksheets. The important features of MS Excel are as follows:

    • Toolbars
    • Formulas
    • Macros
    • Templates
    • Scenario Manager
    • Solver
    • Shortcut Menus
    • Chart wizard

    Toolbars

    MS Excel has a variety of toolbars. It supports the Menu toolbar, Standard toolbar, Formula toolbar, Status bar, etc.

    MS Excel Workbook

    Formulas

    MS Excel has an inbuilt function library for the most frequently used financial, date & time, text, and logical formulas. The Function wizard helps the user with complex formula creation. It helps the user through the steps required to use the built-in function library.

    Macros

    We can create Macros in MS Excel. The macro can be run to repeat the task whenever needed. When a macro is created, Excel stores information about each step done to perform a series of commands.

    Excel Templates

    MS Excel allows us to quickly create professional spreadsheets with Excel templates. The template library has spreadsheet templates for budgets, inventory, project plans, Gantt charts, timelines, etc.

    Data Analysis

    MS Excel is a great tool to perform data analysis.

    Scenario Manager

    Scenario Manager allows us to create different groups of data or scenarios and switch between them. The Scenario Manager helps in performing What-If Analysis in Excel. What-If Analysis allows us to try out different values for the formulas and find the right input.

    Excel Solver

    Solver is a tool to find the optimal value of the target cell by changing the values of the cells used to calculate the target cell.

    Shortcut menus

    MS Excel displays a shortcut menu when the right mouse button is clicked on the worksheet. It displays appropriate commands to the user.

    Chart Wizard

    The chart wizard helps in drawing and formatting different kinds of charts in Excel.

    Auto Fill

    Excel Auto Fill allows us to fill rows and columns when formatting worksheets.

    Shortcut menu

    Excel displays a shortcut menu when the right button is clicked. This shortcut menu contains appropriate commands to work with Excel sheets.
