    Project Vision Document

    Overview

    Project Vision Document establishes an understanding of the Business problem that the system would solve. This document records the Business Goals and the scope of the system.

    Main purpose

    The main purpose of the vision document is to ensure that all the project stakeholders agree on what problem they are attempting to solve by the system.

    Introduction

    The introduction should include a short summary of the new system.

    Purpose

    Business Opportunity
    What opportunity or unsolved problem does the system address

    Problem Statement

    •What are the major problems,
    •Who the problems affect, and
    •What impact these problems create on the business.

    Market

    Who is the end user of the proposed new system? In what context will they use this new system?

    Product Position

    Summarize the outstanding features of the new system. What functionality differentiates it from existing systems? Include a description of alternative products and competition if relevant.

    Stake Holders

    List and summarize the important non-user stakeholders for the system. Besides the users of the system, there are other non-users such as the funding authority, product owner, the project manager, test manager, testers, beta testers etc. who will each have their own unique interests in the system.

    Stakeholder Goals

    Summarize the goals of each stakeholder. If the system were a success, what would they achieve?

    Product Context

    What is the context of the system? Where and how is it used? This section should summarize the system context diagram of the system, system boundaries and describe all major external entities that will interact with the system.

    Features & Benefits

    List the major features in the system and the benefits each feature provides.

    External Requirements & Constraints

    Describe any requirements or constraints the external environment places on the system. For example, Budget Constraints, Time constraints that must be met?
