MySQL SQL Statements

Overview

In this tutorial, we will learn about different MySQL SQL statements.SQL is an acronym and stands for Structured Query Language. It is the language used by relational database management systems to define, structure, delete database objects, access & manipulate data from the database, control database, etc.

Data Definition Language (DDL)

Data Definition Language statements are used to define and structure objects in a database. The common DDL statements are as follows:

  • CREATE
  • ALTER
  • DROP

Data Manipulation Language (DML)

Data Manipulation Language statements are used to add, modify an delete data in an existing database. The common DML statements are as follows:

  • INSERT
  • UPDATE
  • DELETE

Data Query Language(DQL)

Data Query Language statements are used to retrieve data from the database. The example of DQL statement is the SELECT statement.

Data Control Language (DCL)

Data Control Language statements are used for database administration. The common DCL statements are as follows:

  • GRANT
  • REVOKE
