Types of Computer Printers
Overview
Computer Printers are output devices that are used to print information on paper. The standard size is the A4 paper size. An output device is computer hardware equipment used to communicate the results of data processing carried out by the computer system to the outside world. Standard output devices are:
- Computer Monitor
- Audio Speaker
- Computer Printer
Types of Computer Printers
There are two types of computer printers. They are as follows:
- Impact Printers
- Non-Impact Printers
Impact Printers
Impact printers print the characters by striking against the ribbon and onto the paper. These printers make physical contact with the paper to produce the print. Examples of Impact printers are:
- Character Printers
- Line Printers
Character Printers
Character printers print one character at a time. Examples of character printers are:
- Dot Matrix printer
- Daisy wheel
Line Printers
Line printers print one line at a time. Examples of Line printers are:
- Drum printer
- Chain printer
Non-impact printers
Non-impact printers print the characters without striking against the ribbon and onto the paper. These printers are also called as page printers as they print a complete page at a time. Examples of NOn-impact printers are:
- Inkjet Printers
- Laser Printers
